This will be the third attempt to create a television series based on the 1999 film Cruel Intentions
Narrative
After a heated incident at their elite college, siblings Caroline and Lucien attempt to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), which replaced Sarah Michelle Gellar as Catherine Mertel, was originally a scripted series before being adapted into a feature film.
Cruel Intentions (1999) follows
Gellar would later reprise her role as Catherine in the 2016 NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series. As someone who loved the original film, I found it very difficult to watch at first because I kept comparing the characters to the characters in the film.
it’s a new series with “similarities”
After a few episodes, I was about to stop comparing them because I didn’t think it was a remake. The characters have different names etc.
However, by the last episode he became my favorite
The character I really struggled with at the beginning was Lucien. Even assuming it’s not a remake, I couldn’t really feel his character at all.
My advice is don’t compare – if you do, you’ll be really disappointed
If you can go into it with your eyes open to see that it’s a new show with similarities, then you’ll love it.
